STARWARS COLLECTOR¨S CASE - PART II

En una entrada anterior describía una pieza muy peculiar, una caja para coleccionar figuras de la serie starwars, producida entre 1978 y 1985. La caja tenía la forma de Darth Vader , al abrirla traía un cartón con las fotografías de figuras, así como pegatinas con el nombre de las mismas, tal como se pueden ver en las fotos.

In a previous post described a peculiar piece, a box to collect figures in the series starwars , produced between 1978 and 1985. The box was in the shape of Darth Vader, when opening a carton brought photographs of figures and stickers with the name of the same, as you can see in the photos.

 

Tenía constancia de dos tipos de cajas de este estilo, una con la forma de Darth Vader ya comentada, otra con la forma de la cabeza de C3PO y un amigo de este blog me ha mandado la foto de una tercera, con forma de rifle laser. Tanto la caja con forma de rifle como la de C3PO, fueron editadas para la pelicula "El retorno del Jedi", la de Darh Vader para la del "Imperio contraataca"

He recorded two types of boxes of this style, the shape of Darth Vader already mentioned, another in the shape of the head of C3PO and a friend of this blog sent me a picture of a third laser rifle shaped . Both rifle shaped box like C3PO, were edited for the film "Return of the Jedi" of Darh Vader for the "Empire Strikes Back"

DARTH VADER COLLECTOR´S CASE - STARWARS (1978-1985)

Un amigo coleccionista me ha enviado estas imagenes de su caja con forma de Darth Vader vintage y me ha pedido algo más de información, así que he aprovechado para realizar una entrada.

A friend collector sent me these images of his box-shaped vintage Darth Vader and asked me some more information, so I used to make an entry.

En 1977, con el estreno de la primera pelicula de Star Wars , muchas cosas cambiaron en la industria del cine y la forma de rentabilizar la inversión realizada. Hasta esa época, el merchandising era algo residual, casi no existía y las ganancias provenian en exclusiva de la proyección de las peliculas en los cines.

In 1977, with the release of the first Star Wars movie, many things changed in the movie industry and how to capitalize on the investment made. Until then, the merchandising was something residual, almost non-existent and profits were from the exclusive screening of movies in theaters.

George Lucas, cuando negoció con la 20th Century Fox los derechos de explotación de sus peliculas, se reservó los de merchandising. Esto a la larga supondría una enorme ventaja para este astuto cineasta. Las peliculas fueron muy rentables, pero el merchandising sigue funcionando 35 años después, un caso inaudito.

George Lucas, when he negotiated with 20th Century Fox exploitation rights of his movies, he reserved the merchandising. This eventually would be an enormous advantage to this astute filmmaker. The films were highly profitable, but the merchandising still works 35 years later an unprecedented case.

La primera hornada de figuras salieron a cargo de la pequeña compañia americana Kenner (que de esta manera entraría en leyenda de las míticas empresas jugueteras). Muchas grandes firmas de la época desecharon la idea, un gran y enorme error.

kenner tuvo otro gran acierto, en vez de producir figuras del tamaño de la época de los 70 , es decir de unos 15-17 cms, las hizo más pequeñas, unos 10 cms. Este cambio en la escala implicaba dos grandes ventajas, por una parte abarataba mucho los costes, con lo que su distribución fué muy amplia. Además abría la posibilidad de poder completar las figuras con toda la riqueza de naves y complementos de las tres peliculas.

The first batch of figures left in charge of the small American company Kenner (which thus enter into the mythical legend of toy companies). Many big names of the time rejected the idea, a great big mistake.

Kenner had another great success, instead of producing size figures 70 times, ie about 15 to 17 cms, made them smaller, about 10 cms. CATALOGO ANTIGUO DE STAR WARS - STAR WARS OLD CATALOG

Con el paso del tiempo, los catalogos publicitarios de época se han convertido en una fuente muy importante de información. Cuando han pasado 20 0 30 años desde la edición de algunas series de juguetes, la clasificación de estos viene determinada por los catalogos que solian acompañar a las cajas y las hojas de folletos publicitarias.

Estas hojas en concreto pertenecen a un catologo publicitario de star wars, donde podemos encontrar la estación espacial de la estrella de la muerte, la factoria de droides, naves , el vehiculo de las arenas de los Jawa, la famosa cantina de la primera pelicula e incluso dos articulos que aún no han salido a la venta, el transporte de tropas imperiales o el R2D2 a radiocontrol. Este documento por las piezas que tiene, debe datar entre 1978 y 1983, coincidiendo con las primeras peliculas originales de starwars.
